What the Heck is a Core?

"Core" is an auto parts industry term that designates the part you are taking off of the vehicle when installing the new one. There are "New" parts and "Rebuilt" parts. Rebuilt parts are an old school form of recycling. The highest cost associated with many parts is the core materials used to form the case or base the actual auto part is constructed of.

Consider the alternator pictured above. The outside, heavy duty metal that houses all of the internal electrical components can be cleaned, sand blasted and made to be like new much cheaper than creating a new housing out of raw materials. As such, the manufacturers would prefer that you return your old unit so they can rebuild another unit using that case. Every working piece of the rebuilt unit is brand new, but it can be sold for less because of the efficient use of materials gained by recycling the core.

The way that auto parts stores enable this process is by charging a penalty that typically equals an amount about the same as the difference between what a brand new case would cost and what the part can be rebuilt for. Many people would rather not be bothered with the return of the old core, but that is fine because the money paid up front and forfeited by not returning it will pay for a new case. We do suggest however that it is better for the environment and efficiency to get these parts back whenever possible.

I Have a Car Repair Question...

Because of the type of business we are, auto parts for DIY repair, we get questions frequently about how to diagnose or repair. While our call center personnel are definitely experts, they are not the people who are doing the actual car repairs. They will have quite a bit of knowledge from theirs years of experience talking to auto mechanics, but really should not be your source for auto repair help. If you need help diagnosing a problem or advice on installation of your auto parts I have found a source that may help. There is an online service called Just Answer - Car Mechanics where you can go online, type in your question, and an online mechanic will help you through the issue. They have a process by which you offer a bid (money) for the answer to your question, but if you are stuck it seems to be a way to get by without taking your car to a mechanic.

Don't get me wrong, car mechanics are an invaluable resource and well worth the money they charge. The knowledge of car repair provided by a mechanic typically allows for quicker, longer lasting repairs. There are however some instances where you can't get your car to them, or you are in the middle of a DIY repair and something unforeseen pops up. Having an online expert available can at times become a life saver.

If you do your own car repair, keep buying your auto parts wholesale from us. If you have questions about parts, please feel free to utilize our auto parts experts. But keep this site in mind just in case something goes wrong during your repair process.

See Through Car

I have to admit to an addiction I have recently adopted... watching Barrett-Jackson auctions for hours at a time. I doubt I will ever be like the guy this weekend that bought seemingly every car that came across the stage, but I will admit to envy. This weekend the cars were of the mild resto-mod form where they were fully restored, but not exactly to specs. Like the 58 Woody that was spotless, had an entirely new interior true to the original in many ways and a new fuel injected V8. It sold for less than $30K and will probably provide years of head turning drive time for it's eventual owner... all for much less than a dime a dozen used Cadillac Escalade. Don't get me wrong, I love Escalades, but you must admit that a restored Woody will absolutely get more stares than the most perfectly maintained new Caddy.

There is however a line that I would draw in the type of car I would purchase. While I absolutely see the benefit and investment potential of museum showpiece one of a kind cars, I wouldn't buy one if it couldn't be driven. Take for example this stunning plexiglass 1939 Pontiac that was created for the Worlds Fair. It is absolutely a car that would stop everyone in their tracks, but it does not need to be driven. It needs to be in the Petersen Museum in Southern California for people to see. Check out this blog for the cars specifics and if you are interested, where and when it will be auctioned off next month. Since there is only one you can bet it will go for a large figure... but I won't be bidding.

Follow Us on Twitter

I have heard Twitter described as standing in the middle of a huge traffic jam trying to hand out business cards! To the newbies out there, it does kind of seem like that. In order to increase your following numbers it becomes necessary to follow people that don't really fall into your exact category or niche. The cool thing about our company is that almost everyone has a car, so even the butterfly aficianado from New Mexico still might need an air filter for her Subaru.

One secret that I have found to fine tune our promotions is the LIST function. As your following grows it becomes neccessary to separate followers into sub-groups. I have begun the process, creating automotive, classic cars, etc., but I see that I will eventually need to refine it even more. I have even created three separate accounts, @bradcatron , @autopartstom and @carpartscoupon so that my communications make more sense.

Sometimes it is even helpful for things like this months discount coupon code. I can Tweet from all three that you can get an extra 5% on top of our volume discount on top of our already wholesale prices by using COUPON CODE 5472052c (and now it is on my blog and will also post to Facebook).

I really enjoy promoting Autopartstomorrow.com because I have been here for 15 years and really like the people you will be dealing with. I also have done enough research to know that we are KILLING the competition on price, before volume discounts, and before the coupon code 5472052c (see how I mentioned that again). Anyway, do yourself a favor... Like Us on Facebook and Follow all of our accounts on Twitter so that you always know as soon as we release any new Coupon Codes. Helping you save money is my job... Make me look good!

Car Maintenance Is Important !!

Ask any auto mechanic... the cars that have not been cleaned in forever, probably haven't had the oil changed in longer than that. Something about pride of ownership just makes people take care of things from top to bottom. It is something you should consider when you are looking at cars to buy from an individual. While you will probably get a better deal on the car as far as price is concerned, you might also have a potential problem with repairs sooner than you would want.

Now far be it from me, an auto parts salesman, to try to talk you out of buying a car that needs repairs, but it does need to be something you think about. With this in mind, I typically buy the dirtiest cars around. One of the benefits of being in the auto parts field is that I can get auto repairs done much cheaper than most others can. I can also identify which repair might be needed and which auto part it would need. I can buy a dirty run down car (without dents or tears in the upholstery) and put my blood, sweat and tears into fixing it up. Then I can drive it for a year or two and sell it for the same thing I bought it for. It is not the path I would suggest for everyone, but it works pretty well for me.

History of the GM Module

GM Module Replacement Parts

ACDelco provides General Motor brand owners with replacement parts and components, including GM module replacements which are the same original equipment manufacturer (OEM) parts used in the vehicle when it was built. The use of OEM parts and equipment keeps the vehicle completely 100% General Motors and brings years of reliability and performance. ACDelco was created in 1916 by GM and Chevrolet founder, William C. Durant.

Durant was a successful horse carriage manufacturer prior to entering the automotive industry. Durant used a business strategy at the time which was unheard of, where he owned a separate division which supplied all the parts and materials needed to build the horse carriages to his carriage company. As a result of this ingenuity, Durant was able to become a leading carriage manufacturer in the nation. Durant used this same strategy at GM to create United Motors, which would later become known as ACDelco. United Motors consisted of several smaller parts suppliers, which were merged together to offer the materials and parts, including GM module components to the GM divisions.

In 1908 Durant partnered with Albert Champion to create the AC Spark Plug division of General Motors. Albert Champion had founded Champion Ignition in 1899 but had lost control of his company. Both of these companies provided spark plugs and ignition components for various automobile manufacturers and both have survived to this day. In the mid-1970s amid tough economic conditions and an oil crisis, GM merged the parts division with the spark plugs division to create ACDelco. This new division was able to reach more customers since customers were now able to purchase all of their replacement parts, GM module components and spark plugs from a single GM division.

When GM fully acquired ACDelco in 1918, it was designed to exclusively provide parts, GM module components and materials for General Motors brand divisions only. However, over time, General Motors has removed this requirement in order to reach more people by offering replacement parts for other automobile manufacturers’ vehicles. Regardless of whether a person owns a General Motors vehicle or another manufacturer, ACDelco most likely makes replacement parts and components.

Newer model General Motors vehicles include the use of complex computer systems which regulate many features including the ignition system. The ignition system which uses remote starting and other modern features is just one type of GM module in use in the vehicle. These new advanced ignition systems were created to provide more options for the general public when selecting an automobile, which were built by ACDelco.

My Car is Broken Down... Now What?

While cars today are much more reliable than in the past, there still may be a day when your vehicle let's you down. We hope it doesn't go out while driving down a desolate road somewhere, but regardless of where, not having a car can be a serious issue.

The next step then becomes, "Where can I find a good mechanic?". Let me make a personal experience based suggestion here. Always get an estimate! While most mechanics are genuinely honest, I find that the price being quoted to try to get your business can be much lower than the bill when you come back if you just tell them to "Fix what needs to be fixed". That quote should be broken into two pieces; parts and labor. If your car is broken down, chances are that convenience will be a valuable factor when determining what you might be willing to pay. I know there have been times when saving $50-$100 dollars by waiting an extra day would not be worth it.

But there are also times when the repair just cannot be made because of financial constraints... those are the times that Autopartstomorrow.com can help. Ask your mechanic if he will allow you to buy the parts on your own for him to install. Understand that he typically makes a markup (profit) on the parts so understand the reluctance. You might even agree to pay a little more on the labor side and accept the liability on parts warranties if he will help. If he will, ask him for the part numbers you will need, or direct him to our site to buy the parts with your credit card. On large repairs it might just be the difference between getting the job done or calling the junkyard.

Original Equipment GM Part# from ACDelco

Keeping your General Motors vehicle running correctly is important in order to extend the life of the vehicle. Many people purchase a new General Motors vehicle and will follow the manufacturer’s recommended maintenance schedule. However, other people will only perform oil changes and do little else to maintain the vehicle. Not following regular maintenance schedules can lead to parts wearing out sooner and needed replaced more often. The use of GM part# to replace worn out parts for people who seek original equipment is often obtained from ACDelco.

ACDelco is the parts manufacturing division of General Motors which was founded in 1916 as a separate division which manufacturers all parts and components to build General Motors vehicles. ACDelco was originally founded under the name of United Motors by General Motor’s founder William C Durant. Durant also was the founder of Chevrolet as well as the owner of Buick. Durant had previously owned a successful carriage company where he used a separate division, which he also created, to supply all the materials and parts to the primary company for building the carriages. Following this same concept is what led Durant to create United Motors in order to supply all General Motors brands with GM part#.

United Motors was founded by combining several smaller parts manufacturers and suppliers, including Remy Electric Company, Dayton Engineering Laboratories Company, New Departure Manufacturing Company, and Hyatt Roller Bearing Company. In 1908, Durant had partnered with Albert Champion, the founder of Champion Ignition Company to create AC spark plugs; a division of General Motors after Albert Champion had lost control of his company. AC spark plugs were providing GM part# ignition components as well as spark plugs to all General Motors automobile divisions.

Prior to 1918, United Motors was able to sell parts to other manufacturers, including Ford, which General Motors did not like. After 1918, United Motors was fully acquired by GM for a long period prevented the division from manufacturing parts for other competitors. By 1944 the company had become fully integrated into General Motors providing GM part# for all General Motors divisions. In the 1970’s the Delco name was used with various GM divisions and grew in popularity with consumers, and as a result United Motors became United Delco. Delco is an abbreviated version of Dayton Engineering Laboratories Company which was one of the original companies used to create United Motors.

In the mid-1970s, General Motors was looking into ways to combine operations and cut back no expenses amid the economic conditions occurring at the time, including an oil crisis. As a result, GM merged together AC spark plugs with United Delco to create ACDelco, because both divisions were supply the same customers and combing operations would mean better exposure for GM part# made by both divisions.
GM part# are available online from Auto Parts Tomorrow, www.autopartstomorrow.com, which stocks ACDelco brand parts available for all General Motors brands as well as other automobile replacement parts. The company offers free shipping on orders over $50 as well as a low price guarantee, which provides that if a customer finds the same for someplace else for less, Auto Parts Tomorrow will refund the difference plus $1. 2012 Volkswagen Beetle Commercial

The new Beetle has been unveiled now and people have mixed reviews as to what they believe it's popularity might be. You have to admit though, their commercials have gotten much better. Between Volkswagen, the Korean manufacturers (KIA and Hyundai) and a newly energized Big Three (GM, Ford and Chrysler/Dodge), the Toyota's and Honda's of the world need to take note. Things are getting interesting around here again!

GM Sensors

Newer model General Motors cars, trucks, SUVs and crossovers all use computer systems and components in order to provide for optimal operating conditions and achieving the best performance. The computer systems function in a manner where data is fed into the computer and the computer processes this data to make adjustments to the operating conditions of the engine as well as other systems on the vehicle. One part which aids in taking data readings is a GM sensor and information collected is fed back into the computer.

A GM sensor can be found in several different areas on the vehicle and could include oxygen sensors, air pressure sensors and temperature sensors. Oxygen sensors are used to adjust the air and fuel mixture in order to obtain the best gas mileage possible. When the oxygen sensor malfunctions, inaccurate data is fed to the computer which could result in an increase in fuel consumption and decreased gas mileage. Air pressure sensors feed data about the different air pressures in the tires and ensures that correct air pressure levels are maintained.

Maintaining proper air pressure in the tires is important to extend the life of the tear, ensure for uniform tread wear and maintain higher levels of gas mileage. When one tire loses air pressure, A GM sensor reading will feed this data to the computer, which will then display a check tires message on the dash display in the vehicle. It is a good idea to stop driving and check the tire pressure on all the tires at that point, because a tire which is losing air could have a nail or other object in it and could result in a blow out if it is left unchecked.

A GM sensor is also used in General Motors vehicles to measure temperature readings for different features and systems on the vehicle. General Motors vehicles which display inside and outside temperatures use a temperature sensor to take the air temperature and feed the data to the computer which then converts this information and displays the results on the display on the dash in either Fahrenheit or Celsius.

A GM sensor used under the hood of the vehicle to measure air intake temperatures is another type of temperature sensor. As the engine heats up this sensor monitors both the engine temperature as well as the temperature of the air coming in through the air intake. Cooler air intakes temperatures help keep the engine cool and from overheating. When the outside air temperature is hot, then the cooling system on the vehicle must work harder in order to keep the engine operating and prevent it from overheating. In the event the engine becomes too hot, another temperature sensor sends this data to the computer, which then displays the results on the engine temperature gauge on the dash.

Over time sensors wear out and need replaced and can be obtain from Auto Parts Tomorrow, www.autopartstomorrow.com. This auto parts suppliers stocks over $30 million in auto parts including GM sensor replacements. The company guaranteed next day shipping for most areas and provides a low price guarantee. For more information or to place an order, visit the website or call 800-547-2052.

Motorcraft and Ford parts

Shopping for Your Car

Your car is one the place in the world where you can feel truly alone. It is for many drivers an oasis where you can find solitude, as you listen to your music on a sound system, or simply have a few minutes alone with your own thoughts. What you don’t want to experience on a drive to work, home, or out for an evening is a mysterious knocking or grinding noise. Leaving a car’s maintenance up to fate almost ensures this will eventually happen. Keeping a car in good repair is the best way to enjoy its smooth running longer. Ordering parts should be simple. If you own a Ford for example finding the Ford part# doesn’t have to become arduous, if you know where to look right away. The Ford part# is there to make ordering the correct part that much easier.

To ensure that you are ordering the correct part using the Ford part# is the only way. The problem many owners have is they are unsure where to find the number. It is common to wonder if they are looking in the right place, and this is the main cause of frustration. It’s not actually worth driving into a repair shop and paying a higher price simply because the Ford part# is not immediately evident.

Every Ford auto part is individually assigned two numbers for the lifetime of the part. For some owners this is confusing, but when looking for the correct Ford part# it is necessary to know the difference between these two numbers. Each number is a Ford part# but serves a different function. One is the engineering number, and the other is the service number. For the most part the engineering number will not be of as much importance to the owner as the service number.

When looking for the Ford part# it should be understood the engineering number is used while the car is being designed. If your car is an older model this Ford part# can be used to determine when the car part was manufactured, but otherwise the service number is more important. The easiest way to get the right service number is to go online. Using your car’s VIN number, you can assess Ford’s official parts database. If you have the original paperwork and manual for the car the VIN number will be listed, but if not it is usually located on the dashboard in an upper corner near the windshield. By accessing the site, you can enter the year and model number of the car itself if you can’t locate the VIN.

The Ford part # can be accessed by Ford’s site, but if there is a problem contacting a dealer in car parts is the next best chance of finding the right service number. Keep the Ford part# as a record to save time if you need to replace the same part again. Trusted dealers like Auto Parts Tomorrow can help in ordering the right part, and getting you, what you need for less. Keeping a car in great running shape for less money and frustration is worth the few minutes spent on time finding the right part.

Aftermarket Car Radio

I am currently in the market for a new car stereo for an out of service Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor That I bought cheap just recently. If you have followed this blog for any time at all you probably have come to understand that I treat a vehicle as a functional item to get me around. If I was worried about image I don't think I would be driving around a $500 car. That being said, I still want a car that performs well, has cold air conditioning, and a great stereo system. Even the newest cars out there don't always have the newest technology installed from the factory. It can be upgraded for an astronomical price, but you should never buy the highest level sound system from the manufacturer. The markup on those units is unbelievable.

Instead you should go to the aftermarket and check out some of the available options to upgrade your existing system, or even replace your brand new unit with a top of the line model (for less than half what you would have paid at the dealer). For a wide selection I typically go to Crutchfield because I appreciate all of the installation tools they add for free. I could probably find the same unit elsewhere for less, but sometimes the pigtails and fascias needed for the swapover add up to quite a bit... and their warranty and customer service are wonderful.

I also ran across this new device on CNET reviews that will be coming out soon. If you like your stock unit, this upgrade would be really nice. The main reason I want an upgraded head unit is for the auxiliary plug so I can plug in my handheld and either play music from my playlist or stream Pandora through Bluetooth to the car speakers. The days of five buttons for the local radio station are gone. Even CD's are old news because you have to change them out every 45 minutes. I would prefer the flexibility of playing my 200 hours of stored music randomly or allowing an app from my phone anticipate and play new music that my online profile shows I would like.

Watch Out For That Truck !!

Long ago, at a now out of business local Atlanta Pontiac Dealership, they had a unique practical joke that they played on customers in the parts department. First let me pause and caution that "You should not try this at home". Underneath the GM parts counter they had installed a HUGE 18 wheeler air horn connected to a 12 volt car battery. They also wired it so that you could push a door bell type button and just about blow the glass out of the waiting area.

So picture a customer walking through the glass door, inset into the glass wall that looked out over the service lane. If the customer proved to be just a bit too meticulous about the exact color, size and fit of the part, and continued to insist that he wanted to keep looking at more parts until he found the one that perfectly matched the one from his cherry 1969 Corvette ("Don't you have one in the old style ACDelco parts box?")... the parts guys would look at each other and nod.

One of them would scream with a terrified tone and expression "That truck isn't going to stop!!" and dive behind the counter one way. Then the other would Scream "WATCH OUT!!", press the button and dive the other. When the 800 decibel horn blasted from directly underneath the customer, the reaction would be instantaneous, hilarious and almost always not fatal.

Needless to say, either the customer would become great friends because he appreciated the practical joke, or he would never be seen again. Either way it would be considered a win...

Auto Design Efficiency

One of the "go to" terms I use while searching for blog topics is "concept car". The one I selected today is from a designer with Audi. I was struck by the fact it appears to either have no exterior visibility or is using some form of window tinting that appears white from the outside but is see-through from the inside.

It did get me to thinking though... with the coming technological advances that involve computer operated GPS driven vehicles, we will soon be seeing vehicles designed without the need for windows. After all, if you are not driving you only need to look outside from curiosity, and that can be accomplished with a camera system. Once the need for windows goes away the design template opens up dramatically. Going completely to function equals form, I can see that sometime in the future, Cubism may infect the industry. The cube form is very space efficient from the inside and would also allow for the most vehicles per square mile of highway if packed end to end... If it works for the Borg you have to think there might be something to it...

Auto Heat Exchanger

Part of the excitement in an era of fast-change auto technology is the interim steps within the process. I am sure you have heard the least common denominator American mantra "If it ain't broke, don't fix it". What we are finding now is that turn of the century internal combustion engine technology has huge areas of unexplored efficiency gains. One such improvement comes from the field of Thermodynamics. It seems that using heat for conversion into electricity is a widely used technology that has never really been applied to the automotive industry.

This article in today's Sciencedaily.com discusses the potential in capturing this underutilized wasted heat and turning into free cooling or storing it for use in an electrical process (can you say hybrid?). While it won't be as easy as bolting on the pictured device, we can surely work out the details well enough to create an under-hood converter that could tap into this wasted resource and do "something". Like most technological leaps, it typically takes one person to ask the question in a different way and then others to take the new line of reasoning and invent the breakthrough device. Hopefully today's article has gotten the wheels of thought rolling in a young genius engineering student who will change the way we use wasted energy in automobiles. I don't think cars are going away. Let's just continue to make them better and more efficient. Maybe someday in the near future you will be buying this thermo-electric generator from us.

How Does an Airbag Work?

As I was driving through Athens this past weekend I happened upon an accident scene where a lady who looked to be in her 80's had just wrecked her car into a telephone pole. There were several people already on the scene and an ambulance from the hospital located just down the street was approaching in my rear view mirror. As I pulled over to let them by, I was able to see that she was speaking with a woman there to help, and appeared confused but unhurt. Her BMW though was quite damaged. I could not tell from the scene what had happened, but the right front of her car was totally folded under and it looked like the passenger side wheel was almost totally torn off.

What I was impressed by was that every section of the entire car had deployed an air bag. Drivers side, passenger side and both sides front and rear doors were covered by air bags. She was the only occupant, but the car had automatically attempted to protect everyone who may have been in the car. I had to imagine how badly the woman may have been hurt in the past without that type of safety equipment.

Today's post is to share some information with our customers on how the technology works. It is really quite amazing, and probably should be part of your decision making process when replacing your car. More protection is better, and the newer the car, the more likely it will have the side restraint airbags. Obviously the picture above is just an attention getter, not an aftermarket airbag...

How does an airbag work?

How Does A Hybrid Auto Work?

I know it is strange, but I cringe when I hear someone say "What kind of motor is in that car?". For those of you who don't understand immediately, a "motor" is an electric propulsion device. If you want to know what runs that car down the road you need to know what kind of "engine" it has... That is until recently.

The automotive industry is going through a groundswell of change, and will probably continue for quite some time. While just a few years ago, Toyota released the first hybrid vehicle to the mass market. Now we have several different alternative types of vehicles (plug-in, hybrid, fuel cell, hydrogen, compressed Natural Gas, etc.) and the field continues to expand.

I thought it would be a good idea to at least explain one aspect of the industry to those who might be afraid to ask. Many people know that hybrid means part electric and part gas, but that is the end of their understanding. I found this article at AutoMD.com that does a very good job of graphically describing the technology involved in Hybrid cars. Thanks for the info !!

Garbage In / Hydrogen Out

Although I doubt we will see a plasma car anytime soon I do believe there are some possibilities for municipalities to solve several of their problems with this one solution. Plasma Waste Incineration is an idea that has been around for a while. The process involves creating an extremely high temperature plasma arc (contained obviously) that would quickly burn tons of waste being fed into one end. The byproducts would be a glass like substance that could be used as a building material and a gaseous hydrogen / carbon monoxide mix that could be used as fuel. The result would be a process that creates more energy than it uses, produces a sell-able product, and could also be used to fuel municipal buildings and vehicles while eliminating waste. With new fuel cell technology coming out every day, this seems to be an idea that needs to be put into production... sooner rather than later.

Car Maintenance Tips

I say it over and over again, but it bears repeating; Just because I (you) know how to do something does not automatically mean that everyone else does. I find in many areas of my life, when confronted by something new, the person I am dealing with begins their explanation at a level that may be beyond my basic understanding. I am an Electronic Commerce Manager which puts me in that "Computer Guy" territory, but if someone asks me how to set up a virtual network for a server farm my eyes are going to glaze over just like yours.

Sometimes in the auto industry we make assumptions that because someone uses the term alternator it immediately means they know what it looks like, how to diagnose problems with the electrical system, whether it needs a new voltage regulator or the whole assembly, and how to make the needed repairs (especially if it is a male we are speaking with). There are varying levels of understanding what is needed to maintain your car, and increasingly fewer and fewer people are doing the work themselves. I fall into the half and half crowd in that I know how to do many of the minor repairs (from experience), but I choose to allow someone else to do most of them because of time and laziness.

There are many people out there who have basic mechanical skills but may have never done the repair they need right now. I have found a great resource online that will help get beyond that obstacle. EHow.com has a Car Repair an Maintenance section that has numerous How-To articles and videos that will walk you through how to do most of the basic car repairs you might need. Every car will be slightly different so you might need to use some modifications of their instructions, but since the basic job is the same it should be pretty easy to use logic to understand the differences. If you are willing to take some time to learn and buy your auto parts online from us, you can save yourself HUGE amounts of money over the life of your car. While we specialize in wholesale GM parts and Ford parts, you can get auto parts for just about every late model vehicle sold in the US. Do a little work, save a little money... we could all learn to do more of that couldn't we?

NC State Wooden Supercar

Who says you don't learn anything in college these days except how to apply for loans and build credit card debt? These craftsmen in North Carolina have taken green to a whole new level. They are engaged in a project to build from scratch, their own one of a kind super car, complete with a wooden exoskeleton and many wooden components. Wherever possible even the auto parts are given wooden fascias.

They have given the work of art the moniker of "Splinter". Now that is what I call an environmental engineering program! Check out the entire story starting with this post from Autoblog.com .

Wholesale ACDelco Parts Online

AC Delco Parts is owned by General Motors as a fully independently ran subsidiary consisting of AC Spark Plug and United Delco divisions. General Motors was founded in 1908 by William Durant as a holding company for Buick with plans to acquire other automobile manufacturers of the time. William Durant has been successful as a carriage manufacturer prior to automobiles using similar business tactics, which included creating a separate division for provide the components and raw materials needed to the carriage company. This allowed for the carriage company to always have materials and components available even when competitors faced shortages or increased prices.
In 1908, William Durant along with Albert Champion created the AC Spark Plug Division owned by General Motors as part of Durant’s business philosophy to provide materials and equipment to Buick at affordable costs. General Motors began to grow quickly and was able to obtain Oldsmobile before the end of 1908 and Cadillac, and the divisions which would become known as Pontiac and GMC Trucks in 1909. William Durant lost controlling interest in GM in 1910 and went off to found Chevrolet with Louis Chevrolet in 1911. AC Delco parts were not available, yet but the creation of Durant’s vision would be forthcoming shortly.
With the success of the Chevrolet brand of automobiles, Durant was able to resume control of General Motors in 1916 adding Chevrolet to the General Motors lines of automobiles. It was during this time that Durant also created the United Motors Corporation from profits earned from Chevrolet. United Motors Corporation consisted of individual companies, each providing different parts, materials and components for use in manufacturing automobiles. United Motors was not owned by GM and could offer AC Delco parts to any automobile manufacturer.
General Motors remedied this situation by purchasing United Motors for $45 million in 1918 and making it a wholly owned subsidiary. Now GM had two divisions which could provide the majority of parts for all of its line of automotive products as well as replacement parts exclusively for GM models. The Delco name was born from the Dayton Engineering Laboratories Company which was part of the original United Motors Corporation. The Delco name had gained so much popularity with consumers that in 1971 GM renamed the division United Delco. Consumers were able to obtain AC and Delco parts for the GM brand automobiles.
Due to economic conditions and in efforts to cut expenses, combine operations and provide better marketing of products, General Motors combined the AC and Delco parts divisions in 1974. This strategy better aligned the two divisions by merging them together since consumers were already obtaining parts from each division and now could do so with having to place only one order instead of two separate parts orders.
AC Delco parts are available still today from Auto Parts Tomorrow, www.autopartstomorrow.com at reasonable prices. This company offers the lowest prices on parts which include a pricing guarantee, where they will refund the difference plus $1 if a consumer can find the same part for less. The company also offers free shipping on orders over $50 and overnight delivery in most locations. For more information, assistance or to place an order, call 800-547-2052.

How an Engine Works...

Another in the video series from TLC that explains the basics on an internal combustion engine. Although everyone rides around in their cars being propelled by this technology, not everyone is aware how it all works. A basic understanding of auto technology and auto parts will make an auto parts buyer more informed, and an educated consumer is much more likely to take advantage of our site, autopartstomorrow.com for their auto parts needs. Some say the internal combustion engine is doomed to quick replacement. Others understand how ingrained the technology has become. It will probably be around in some form for quite a while...

Fathers Day Gift

I had to laugh when I saw this picture. What an amazing combination of iconic man-items! Just in case you are interested in getting one of these for your friend or Father's Day to outfit the man cave, it is available through Amazon.com or you can check their home page here. For that guy who has everything, or someone you would like to quit opening beers with their teeth, this looks pretty cool.

Now That's What A Frog Car Should Look Like!

Back in the dark ages of my youth, when I first met my wife we were having a discussion on which car we would look best in. She had a new Mazda 626 at the time and also a nice BMW 318IS, both white, and I said she seemed to fit both. She suggested I might look good in a Peugeot. I really didn't know how to take that. On the one hand they were pretty stylish, European vehicles that were unique. On the other hand they were French, and notorious for being broken down all the time. (Hence the picture and site I chose). To be honest I have worn that branding sheepishly for years.

Luckily the manufacturer has released a concept vehicle (see below) in honor of their 200th anniversary that is more aligned with the style I would feel comfortable representing. I doubt very seriously it would pass my total cost of ownership requirements. If it did I might also need to add a calculation to the algorithm for downtime vs. up-time, because it doesn't give me the impression of time spent working on the dependability quotient. It would however still look cool sitting on a trailer in front of the lake house. I could just tell everyone I keep it there to take to Road Atlanta for time trials, etc.. That sounds better than "It's broken down and I am waiting on the auto parts to be manufactured in France (they are off in August because it is hot and the wine is in)".

Why Can't I Just Exchange It?

Online auto parts sites such as Autopartstomorrow.com offer many conveniences that give the customer more power in determining how to manage the maintenance and upkeep of their car. Gone are the days when you had to take your car to a shop and have them diagnose and price the repair while you had absolutely no clue about what those parts and services should cost. Now, an informed consumer can check diagnostic codes for suggested repair time, look up their own repair parts on catalogs provided by multiple sites and compare costs. In the case of our site... order the part for much less than even the garage normally would pay, and get it the next day. Those are all of the good things.

Now for the bad. If you are working on your car on Saturday and accidentally damage a piece while removing or re-installing it, what do you do? If you order a part and find out later that your engine is a 4.6L but you thought it was a 5.4L, now you have ordered the wrong part. In both of those scenarios the local garage or auto parts store has several same day options. You do as well, but you won't be ordering the part from a wholesale parts distributor on the web and getting it today. Like everything in life there are positives and negatives to auto parts online. Great pricing, wide availability and easy to use tools are all great. However, their are benefits to local availability... and costs to those stores that will be passed on to you.

This brings up an issue that I would like to address here; Exchanges. Since we will never be able to have a face to face transaction, it becomes impossible for us to create an exchange procedure. We require that the buy and refund transactions stand completely on their own. What we do instead is work closely with our customers to try to minimize the turn around time for the second part, and try to credit the first part in a timely manner. Most of the time the actual part number needed is different, and the price is not the same. We would need the customer to make another online order for the new part (our experts are ready to help you confirm the part number) and communicate with us about expediting the credit once it shows back up at our warehouse. I will agree that this can sometimes cause financial stress, not to mention become an inconvenience, but we feel the small percentage of issues like this are easily outweighed by the huge savings on the actual parts.

Over the years, many industries have made sweeping changes to the way they do business. If you are old like me, you remember hardware stores where a friendly gentleman walked you to the dingy recesses of their store to find the exact widget you need (and paid full retail for it). I worked at a full service Gas Station where we charged an astronomical $1.50 on the full service pumps while self service was only $1.09 (and I stayed busy all day). I am even buying my prescription eyeglasses and contact lenses online these days because the savings are tremendous. Businesses serve a niche of their market to the best of their ability, and will live or die based on where a customer places their trust. Full Service Hardware stores are now almost non existent, replaced by Home Depot and Lowes. You cannot buy full service gas anymore. Local Opticians are almost gone as well... Consumers are very intelligent and will always be weighing the pros and cons. We hope that our extraordinary prices and service will help overcome some of the built in inconvenience of long distance transactions. It will be up to you to decide.

Can New Technology Be Bad For The Auto Industry?

OK, so the headline seems counter-intuitive, I agree. New technology is being folded into our new vehicles so fast it is sometimes hard to keep up, and I am in the industry. We are finally at a point where competition is truly creating differences (more choices) that we can appreciate and use to make our decisions. I propose however that some of these diversions are just that, deflections of correct ideas into marketing niches that will in the long run create eddies in the advancement river, if not backwater dead ends.

One such trend that I am fearful of is new battery technology. Currently, Lithium Ion batteries are the rage, and everyone is trying to jump out front to become the dominant player. Our government is subsidizing production, China is trying to buy up all of the scarce raw materials needed for production, and many manufacturers are trying to tie up producers with long term very aggressive contracts. What I see is an industry that is building it's own blinders towards newer and better battery technology that may emerge at any moment, because it has become so heavily invested in Li-Ion. I am encouraged by this article by Matthew Deboard of BNET.com that shows at least Johnson Controls seems to be logical in it's approach. In reading between the lines I see a massive corporation that doesn't want to commit to an all-in investment in a technology that won't ever really be the end game. I believe some wise engineer has been listened to (and that doesn't happen a lot in corporate America), that has cautioned against this stop gap battery being "the next great thing".

If you have read my posts in the past you will remember many such articles about which battery, engine, hybrid or plug-in combination will become the chosen replacement for the internal combustion engine. I think everyone agrees we need it... I am just glad to see wise people in the industry recognize that we haven't actually seen it yet. Don't get so tied up in today's solution that you cannot embrace and dominate the right choice that appears tomorrow.
