Say It Ain't So...

Anyone who has been around long enough has seen the dramatic progression of complexity and skill required to repair newer vehicles. One of my first cars was a 1966 Mustang, with an engine, radiator, battery, starter and alternator (and lots of open space) under the hood. Many of the later vehicles have actual shields under the hood to keep people from messing with the tremendously technologically advanced systems. You almost need to be a computer engineer AND an aerospace engineer to know what is going on under there. Now, automakers are actually bringing in their teams of Lawyers to begin to ban people from working on their cars through copyright laws. Read this article from Autoblog and see what you think... are car mechanics soon to go the way of draftsmen film processors?

ACDelco 217-2296 GM Original Equipment 12568580

When the mechanic says you need a new throttle body it normally means a LOT of money. The labor involved along with the part can really add up. With most parts like this it is normally best (if you decide to do the job) to replace with the OE part. It doesn't make any sense to pay all of that labor money on a vital component and have it fail shortly afterwards. At Autopartstomorrow.com we have the original part number in stock and ready to ship. The best part is we have it at true wholesale pricing. Call the dealership and check our price... we have been told in the past they are about twice what we charge. The job is still going to be painful to pay for, but with the savings you get from us maybe it helps make more sense and ease the suffering just a little. If you have any questions at all, or if you need assistance in confirming the right part number, call our team of experts and we will be glad to help.

For much quicker response time, and to get more exact fitment questions answered we find it is always best to speak with you live, so that we might ask any questions the catalog presents. We want to make sure you get exactly what you are looking for. It is also very helpful if you have the vehicle identification number (VIN) from your insurance card available when you contact us. Please call 1-866-545-2035 and speak with one of our highly trained, experienced parts experts (available 9AM-5PM EST). We look forward to hearing from you!

ACDelco ABS Brake Modulator 15904563 or New Brake Module 19122252

Brake Modulator
New ABS Brake Module

If you are reading this chances are you have just realized how expensive working on ABS brakes can be. Well you have come to the right place for two reasons. If it needs to be repaired you may as well do it right and replace with genuine OE parts. Secondly, since we are an ACDelco warehouse distributor, you can get these parts direct for a fraction of the dealership price (hint: they buy them from us). If you have a GM truck between 2003 and 2007 and need this part we can save you quite a bit of money.

If you have a truck that is outside this range we can still help, and probably save you just as much. Just click the link and for Autopartstomorrow.com  and we will be glad to help.

Motorcraft DG508 Ignition Coil vs. Standard Brand

For almost all auto parts these days there are "options". It can get pretty complicated. I am going to use the Ford Motorcraft DG508 Ignition Coil as an example. It fits a huge number of Ford cars and trucks that I will list at the bottom of the page. The Ford distributorless ignition engines are very well designed and use these "coil over" modules that sit on top of the spark plug. Most cars and trucks that use this part won't even need to do a tune-up or replace any of them for the first 100,000 miles. After that the coils begin to go bad, one at a time usually. Since the original Motorcraft part number DG508 typically sells for somewhere between $50 -$80 each, buying eight at one time would be devastating. At Autopartstomorrow we sell this part for about $37, which is a HUGE savings, but I am just getting started.

We also have a couple of Standard Brand ignition coils that are built to exactly the same specs, but sell for much less. The DG508 equivalent in Standard brand is FD503 and sells at Autopartstomorrow for a few dollars less each. Where the real savings add up is by buying the FD503T, which is built overseas, but carries the same warranty and are only around $17 each. For that price you may even be able to replace all of them.

If you are going to keep your vehicle forever we always advise to replace with original equipment parts. But if you are like most people and need to save some money to get your car going again for another 4-5 years, sometimes the savings on an aftermarket part can be quite helpful. Either way, they are quality parts and you won't find a better price anywhere than Autopartstomorrow.com.

Aspiring Auto Mechanic?

With the growing technical aspects of the ever increasingly complex systems contained in automotive applications, "Mechanic" is a dying term. Many new recruits to this field are now considered "Technicians". My feeling is that this trend will continue. Cars and trucks are increasingly just mobile computer networks connected to and engine and four wheels. The Auto Tech of the future will need to be fully vested in computer diagnostic techniques and the larger diagnostic systems that will help them find issues. As such, I feel that pay rates will be rising for good, intelligent and well qualified candidates. Check out this site for possible schools that might help place you into this category.

P.S. Don't let pre-conceived ideas of what a car mechanic was in the past, cloud your vision to the potential income of this coming "High Tech" job.

My Car is Broken Down... Now What?

While cars today are much more reliable than in the past, there still may be a day when your vehicle let's you down. We hope it doesn't go out while driving down a desolate road somewhere, but regardless of where, not having a car can be a serious issue.

The next step then becomes, "Where can I find a good mechanic?". Let me make a personal experience based suggestion here. Always get an estimate! While most mechanics are genuinely honest, I find that the price being quoted to try to get your business can be much lower than the bill when you come back if you just tell them to "Fix what needs to be fixed". That quote should be broken into two pieces; parts and labor. If your car is broken down, chances are that convenience will be a valuable factor when determining what you might be willing to pay. I know there have been times when saving $50-$100 dollars by waiting an extra day would not be worth it.

But there are also times when the repair just cannot be made because of financial constraints... those are the times that Autopartstomorrow.com can help. Ask your mechanic if he will allow you to buy the parts on your own for him to install. Understand that he typically makes a markup (profit) on the parts so understand the reluctance. You might even agree to pay a little more on the labor side and accept the liability on parts warranties if he will help. If he will, ask him for the part numbers you will need, or direct him to our site to buy the parts with your credit card. On large repairs it might just be the difference between getting the job done or calling the junkyard.

Auto Parts for an Opel GT

One of my first learning experiences pertaining to auto parts was during High School when I worked at a full service Chevron gas station in Stone Mountain, Georgia. Back then, service stations not only pumped your gas but would also perform oil changes, tire balancing and rotation, and many other full service auto mechanic car repairs. My job was mainly the light service work, oil changes, pump the gas, collect the money and beginning service writer duties. When someone would drop off their car for repair, I would write their information on the ticket and ask as many related questions as possible so the mechanic could trouble shoot their auto repair as quickly as possible. (Remember- No Cell Phones for quick contact) After the mechanic determined what the issue was, he would give me a list of parts needed and I would call around to try to find them and get the auto parts prices.

A local customer had a really cool 1970 Opel GT, baby blue, with a "When I grow up I want to be a Corvette" bumper sticker. The downside was that it was constantly broken down, parked on the curb and waiting for special order parts that might, or might not, help get it back on the road for another week or two. Although it was a beautiful car, I learned that there are just some cars where the repair cost and availability of auto parts make them fall into my "Cost too much to own" category.

It is funny how certain aspects of our jobs make their way into our everyday life. Since that time I have always considered repair cost and availability of auto parts as a factor in which vehicle to buy. It is probably why I now consider a car to be a functional item rather than a vanity purchase. I suppose I would look at it differently if I had gobs of disposable cash, but for now I will continue to buy used cars that are inexpensive to repair... and drive them until it is time to call the wrecker to pull it to the local "Pull a Part" location.
