Now, how does that help the DIY auto parts customer? Volume is how we keep our prices low. We already sell directly to dealerships, jobber stores, retail stores, mechanics and garages. Adding the public to this keeps our inventory moving. In all honesty, each of these customer types buys a little bit different mix of car parts. If we supply parts to the entire breadth of these consumers, we increase the width of our auto parts lineup. It also allows us to sell these automotive parts at a much lower price. Buying in volume allows us the greatest discounts available to anyone.
The auto parts industry has always kind of fascinated me with the distribution model we have used for years. The normal model is for a manufacturer (ACDelco, Motorcraft, Bendix, Monroe, etc.) to sell to a warehouse distributor. The WD then sells to a Jobber store, who sells to garages and auto mechanics, who then sell it to the public. It is frowned upon for anyone to step outside of this style of selling.
