Car Recalls and Technical Service Bulletins
We all have heard about all of the current recalls, from MANY different manufacturers. Hearing about them on the radio and TV, and actually knowing whether your vehicle has an issue can sometimes be confusing. This website from Safercar.gov can help provide some of the details if you choose to check for yourself. It is a good resource for anyone who drives a vehicle, which is almost all of us.

What Makes a Car Windshield Safe?
The short answer is that automotive windshields are "tempered", and most have a very thin layer of plastic sandwiched between two layers of glass. This article from Popular Science highlights the scientific principles as to why tempered glass is so tough.

Into the Mist...
My family drives mostly older vehicles. One of the perks of selling auto parts is that I am surrounded by many very talented automotive people who are always ready to help diagnose and repair problems that may crop up. It is also good to be around them from a habit forming perspective. If you love cars, you take care of your cars. Knowing that your car has been maintained correctly helps to build the confidence needed to drive cars well past the 200,000 mile mark that 3 of my cars are either approaching or have recently passed.
I have blogged in the past about how I remember in High School standing in awe of anyone with a car aged past the 100,000 mile mark. Now, with the availability of great replacement parts and well engineered vehicles, twice that is normal. I will admit that once you approach that mark, where you get your auto parts becomes more of an issue. However, I would have no problem at all replacing an alternator on Monday, and heading out on a cross country trip on Tuesday.
The uncertainty of quality can be put in the past if you buy from Autopartstomorrow.com. Throw the suitcase in the trunk, grab your coat and go... Let's take that trip we have been thinking about. Drive on into the mist... with confidence.

Auto Parts Safety
At Autopartstomorrow.com we have a large following of DIYer's who purchase our auto parts wholesale and then do the installation work themselves. That is truly a big money saver. However, we want to make sure everyone who makes this attempt is doing it safely.
DO NOT ATTEMPT REPAIRS LIKE THE FOOLS IN THE PICTURE ABOVE!!!
I will link to a Popular Mechanics article a little later but let me emphasize one point they make... work on vehicles only on a flat, level, paved surface and NEVER get under a car that is up on a floor jack without also using jack stands! While the jack may do the job of lifting a car just fine, there are too many opportunities for something to go wrong for anyone to risk getting crushed under a car while trying to save money.
Now for that link... Popular Mechanics has always been one of my favorite magazines and I am find that it is becoming a go-to site for great stories about car repair and maintenance. Check out this story on Garage Safety, and please be careful when working on your car.
