Start from "Scratch"
Recently I highlighted a customization company that produced ICONic old four wheel drive vehicles like the Willy's Jeep and the 1960's Ford Bronco. Today I will go a step further and introduce you to AC Autos. A fibreglass fabrication company that sells body kits, in various stages of build, for many of the amazing classic vehicles of the past.
With the amazing new technology available for automotive drive trains, and the availability of these turn-key body options, the sky is the limit on which head turner you would like to drive.

New Car or Used Car?
This topic is near and dear to me because I have for years been on the USED side of this equation. However, every time I start approaching the 10-12 year old vehicle threshold it becomes a new topic of consideration. In the past it was a pretty clear cut win for the used vehicle because new cars depreciated so quickly. While they certainly drop in value now, we must consider the overall length of ownership piece more these days. While a 1990 car had an expected life of 10 years, today's vehicle seems to be destined for 15 years or more (easy). The only question then becomes, "Will we be able to afford gas 15 years from now?".
This article from AskMen.com does a very good job of spelling out some real world calculations from Edmunds.com to help us make a decision. The main point I glean from the article is, "Never Lease!". Buying new vs. used then comes down to several factors that will depend on YOUR preferences. It is a good read. Even if you are not currently in the market, adding this piece to your knowledge base is well worth your time.

ICON Bronco
If you have followed my blog(s) long enough you get a sense that I love two things about the automotive field, classic design and new technology. I have written specifically about how great it would be if someone were to take some of the old ICON's of the industry and build them on a new chassis with cutting edge equipment. It seems that I am not the only one thinking this way.
Icon 4X4 has been doing this for a while now. This article from Autoblog.com highlights the thinking behind their newest product, the ICON Bronco. It looks to me like they have created a beautiful lineup of products for that niche group of buyers who are upscale in their wealth quotient, but still down to earth in their personality.
If you want glitz there are other products for less money. If you want pure brawn, it can be had from a rebuild of an existing platform, also for less money. But if you are a fan of actual ability in your vehicle with a classic flair, this may be what you have been waiting for. Oh, you will also need around $150K...
